Wilkes-Barre residents step out for summer-long 'Y Walk Wednesdays' event

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — Some people in Wilkes-Barre are taking part in the summer-long "Y Walk Wednesdays" event.

The walks are coordinated by the Greater Wyoming Valley Area YMCA

The latest walk began at 6:00 yesterday evening at the Wilkes Barre YMCA. Walkers spent about an hour and a half checking out public infrastructure, architecture, nature and new developments in the city.

"The very concept of getting people out and walking around downtown is important because it's great to give people a reason to get out, walk around, explore the center city and not even realize necessarily that they're getting exercise," said Larry Newman, Executive Director of the Diamond City Partnership. "It's great to be able to get out with people from the public but the ultimate goal is to get people out and walking around the streets of center city Wilkes-Barre."
