Founded in 1863, the YMCA of Wilkes-Barre focuses on the promotion and coordination of recreational and religious programs in the community. The organization administers a variety of programs for youths and adults. Its Kids Saturday afternoon at the Y program includes swimming, gymnastics, and arts and crafts activities for children up to the age of 10. The YMCA of Wilkes-Barre also conducts swimming lessons and certification courses. The organization administers child care programs for infants and children in pre-kindergarten. In addition, it provides nutritional and diabetes and weight management services. The YMCA of Wilkes-Barre's wellness department is equipped with treadmills, upright bikes, strength machines and free weights.
