Details
So you can guess a whole movie as soon as you see the poster and every movie seems oddly the same no matter what it’s about. You’re not alone. And there are other ways to work. For those who’d like a review (and those who’ve never learned the rules), this course will begin by going over the conventional, accepted thinking of how to write a screenplay. But after that, we’ll start exploring some different ways of using the imagination, not so much “breaking the rules” as adding other ideas about how a film can be written. Included here will be everything from playing with time schemes to letting genres bump heads to the use of voiceover and personal stories, improv techniques as well as the I Ching. We’ll see scenes from such films (and streaming shows) as Fleabag, Run, Lola, Run, Underground Railroad, Cold War and My Dinner With Andre. This is a course for anyone interested in movies, in film, and in doing things a little differently.
Please note: This is a six-week workshop that begins on October 3rd, will not meet on October 31st and finishes on November 14th.
