On Saturday, May 6, 2023, Joe Nardone will present an incredible four-act lineup of hit-makers at the FM Kirby Center:  OH WHAT A NIGHT OF 60s ROCK & ROLL.” 

Headlining the show and returning due to popular demand by area fans are JAY AND THE AMERICANS.  They charted an amazing 12 top 10 records, starting with “She Cried” in 1962.  Other hits include “Only in America,” “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Let’s Lock the Door (and throw Away the Key),” “Cara Mia,” “This Magic Moment,” “Some Enchanted Evening” and “Walkin in the Rain.”  They performed on The Beatles first American tour and played at Carnegie Hall with the Rolling Stones. 

The Grass Roots had three top ten singles, six top twenty singles and fourteen top forty singles, selling more than 20 million records worldwide, in the late sixties and early seventies.  Hits include “Let’s Live for Today,” “Midnight Confession,” “I’d Walk a Million Miles,” “Temptation Eyes,” “Sooner or Later,” “Heaven Knows” and “Two Divided by Love.”  In 1982, their performance on July 4 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. set an all-time attendance record of over half a million people.

Gary Lewis & the Playboys had the unique accomplishment of having their first seven singles all reach the top 10 on the charts.  Despite 1965-66 charts being dominated by British bands, Gary’s hits were:  “This Diamond Ring” (#1 on Billboard chart), “Count me In” (#2), “Save Your Heart for Me” (#2), “Everybody Loves a Clown”(#4), “She’s Just My Style” (#3), “Sure Gonna Miss Her” (#9) and “Green Grass (#8).  Gary and his band appeared on many popular music shows on television, including Ed Sullivan (five times), Shindig, Hullabaloo and Johnny Carson’s Tonight show, as well as several of his father’s Muscular Dystrophy telethons (comedian Gerry Lewis).  

Opening the show is Jimmy Russo.  Throughout his career, Jimmy has performed as the lead singer of the Earls, Vito and the Salutations and the Duprees.  He performed at Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall and the Meadowlands Arena and appeared on T.J. Lubinsky’s PBS tv shows “Doo Wop 52” and “My Music.”  His renditions of 60s hits will be a great way to start the concert.
