The Luzerne County Historical Society announces that it will host a brand-new walking tour entitled: “A Walk in Wilkes-Barre in the Era of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War” on Saturday, June 24, 2023. This walk, which draws heavily from the Society’s publication Lincoln: Luzerne County Friends & Foes, will give attendees a view into Downtown Wilkes-Barre in the 1860s. Learn all about the local movers and shakers who interacted with, and often butted heads with President Lincoln on a regular basis in the nation’s capital. All tours start in front of the LCHS Museum at 69 South Franklin Street, behind the Osterhout Library, and wind their way through the historic Downtown district. The first tour begins at 11 AM and then each hour until 2 PM (four tours total). Each tour will last approximately two hours and will be held rain or shine. Cost is $10 per person. Each tour is limited to 40 people and reservations are required. For more information, or to ask a question, call 570-823-6244 x3, or email info@luzernehistory.org.
