History comes alive with this faithful screen adaptation of the smash Broadway musical about the fight for American independence. The founders are depicted as flesh-and-blood human beings, including the abrasive John Adams (William Daniels) and the quiet, introspective Thomas Jefferson (Ken Howard). Howard Da Silva sparkles as the wise and witty Benjamin Franklin. ("Treason is a charge invented by the winners as an excuse for hanging the losers.”)
